Facts On Computer Data Loss:
A while back HP ran a very interesting study on Data Loss. It really got us thinking about how few people backed up their own files and to be honest how our own holes in data backup we needing to be filled. For a long time there really wasn't a great option for people to backup their data other than buring CD's constantly, using flash drives, or emailing files to yourself.
Backing up date is something most of us never even think about, well until it is too late that is and when data loss strikes it can be a very difficult time. Thousands of music files, precious family photos, term papers and more can all be lost with the greatest of ease. In the case of hardware failure these files can never be brought back.
After years of working in a computer repair shop we realized it was shocking how few people were doing anything to protct their files and how few solutions existed for people to use. Below are the findings of HP.
- 40% of all data loss is due to hardware failure
- 29% of all data loss is due to human error
- 13% is due to software error (corrupt files)
- 9% is due to theft
- 6% is from viruses
- 3% is from Hardware destruction
