Are we witnessing death to Internet Explorer?
There used to be a day where Microsoft was able to dominate the browser market with Internet Explorer. After all, it did have the majority of the market share, but now we are seeing their presence decreasing rather quickly, from having 90% of the market to less than 60%.
We all know how Microsoft used to blind us by making us think they were the only solution when it comes to using computers. Whether or not, it was using Windows or another one of their other products such as Internet Explorer.
This day has been coming for a long time. After all, when you are trying to “mislead” others by infiltrating their train of thought, it’s definitely not going to help when it’s revealed. Actually, I think this is going to be a rather painful experience for Microsoft.
Here are the top 5 reasons that Internet Explorer is quickly losing its reputation as being the dominant internet browse in the market.
- The Features Suck
Microsoft may have been a company that got their feet on the ground in the earlier days of computing, and they have made quite a bit of money by doing so. However, this doesn’t hide the fact that Internet Explorer is simply a follower. When it does lead, it still sucks. Some of the things that made me come to the conclusion is the constant security issues that IE users experience, the slowness compared to competing browsers, the lack of having a tabbed browsing feature that works just as well as other browsers, and the list could go on for days. - The European Union Is Fed Up
Europe is just one of those continents that hasn’t let Bill Gates or his company out of their sight. They analyzed the way that Microsoft does business and how it carried on providing computer users with products and services. Finally, the European Union got fed up with Windows forcing users to use Internet Explorer if they chose to go with the default settings. In fact, this led to a requirement of Microsoft providing Windows users with other browser options. This is a big slap in the face to Microsoft, but a great move for consumers who just don’t want Internet Explorer, but lack the knowledge of their other browsing options.
- The Microsoft Usual: Security Problems
Microsoft has went through some hard times (and still continues to do so) in terms of having a countless number of security vulnerabilities. In fact, Internet Explorer is one of the biggest security problems that Microsoft has ever had.Sure, they try to fix their browser security, but it seems that they simply can’t keep up with the fast-paced world of Information Technology. IE is not the most secure browser and we continue to see more vulnerabilities than any other browser on the market. This has definitely turned off quite a few IE users and made them to start seeking out alternative internet browsers so they can actually be safe when they’re browsing the net. - Microsoft Is Too Hard-Headed
Microsoft is known for being full of themselves. Maybe it’s the amount of money they have made, or maybe it’s the domination that they were once known for. In fact, when IE maintained most of the market share for internet browsers, it seems like MS took it for granted.By doing this, they really limited the capabilities of what their products could flaunt. They felt cozy by having 90% market share with Internet Explorer, and this is coming back to bite them. Instead of innovating, they just wanted to continue dominating the market.Little did Microsoft know that innovation is the way of tomorrow, not trying to mislead as many people as possible in order to make a quick buck off of them.
- Google Is Quickly Rising
Google Chrome may not be the most popular browser in the world, YET. However, when they showed up on the scene, they made Microsoft’s attempts at dominating the search engines look like crap.Microsoft has always wanted to have the leading search engine, and they tried yet failed to do so. Now Google is beating them at their own game, when Google Chrome starts doing that, they will once again lose an uphill battle with Google.
As you can see, it’s the obvious things about Internet Explorer that we knew all of this time, but this is the time where it’s actually starting to produce the side effects of inappropriate management on Microsoft’s part.
For me, I see this as a period that all techs will remember for the rest of their lives. In fact, this may be the start of Microsoft finally failing in the browser market, and Internet Explorer may die as we know it. Only time will tell.
Good luck with your future endeavors Bill, we hope to see a nice comeback from you.
Or maybe not…
