Fancy Form Over Function? Buy An Apple

We admit this post may come off as a little bit of a rant and we will do the best we can to keep our points fair, even, and fact based. The team here at Be Your Own IT is just getting a little sick of all the people getting sucked in by flashy commercials for Apple products, sacrificing performance for pretty, and absorbing that air of superiority that Apple is really selling.

If you own an apple and this post offends you tell us about it, tell us how wrong we are and how great your apple product is. We are not talking just about Apple computers but we are also talking about perhaps the largest rip-off product ever the Ipod.

We have nothing against good marketing and admit there likely is nobody better at it than Apple, getting people to pay a premium price for inferior products, getting people to lower their expectations of a brand, and making people willing to pay extra money for simple upgrades amazes us. Just look at some of the hilarious scams Apple has pulled off over that past year.

1. Iphone 3G-Getting people to buy a whole new phone to get features their original phone should of had in the first place. I mean their big selling point was freaking cut and paste! Something our phones have had for years. Yet the masses bought into it and all shelled out hundreds of dollars for a new phone which remains to be on easily one of the worst networks out there AT&T.

2.Ipod- With over 20 different releases of their portable MP3 player Apple is still finding new ways to convince their users to throw away their current models and buy new ones, use one of the most annoying programs ever I-tunes to place their music, and trick them into paying more than anyone for the same music places like Amazon, EMusic, and other sell DRM free! Every time I see another Ipod it makes me want to Ipuke. Stop buying them people! Do your research you have better options.

3.MacBook-Thousands of college students everywhere desperate for acceptance make the Macbook the most popular laptop on college campuses. That was the day I knew people had just stopped caring all together. Students were basically willing to accept additional frustration in an all PC world especially on college campuses just to “have a mac”. Their laptop offers literally no unique features available on any PC at a lesser price. For example their entry level MacBook offers 2.26 GHz, 2GB of RAM, and a DVD burner for $999.00. We found just about 20 options with more features for less than $600.00. Tell us again why you bought that overpriced pig with lipstick on it?

The purpose of this post is to help wake you up a little bit, yes even the team here at Be Your Own IT laughs at the Apple versus PC commercials but that doesn’t mean we’re going to let commercials do our thinking for us. Do your research, were not saying that Apple isn’t a perfect fit for a lot of you, maybe even the majority of you but we can guarantee there is a better option out there for you. Oh yea, do us all a favor if you are a Apple product owner, spare us all the played out superiority complex, odds are you got ripped off anyway……Apple sucks…

If you wish to check out their products anyway here are a few links.

  3. I own two iPods–a Classic 120GB and a Touch. The Classic, and an Ion USB turntable, enables me to rip hundreds of old records to computer, and to store preferred tracks for use on the job. I purchase occasionally from iTunes, but more often from other sources.

The iTouch is my portable laptop substitute, and travels where it cannot.

I agree wholeheartedly, though, as regards the iPhone with its $150/monthly charges, and Apple’s pricey computers. Admittedly, those prices support a quality research and development team, and those who purchase them (and Apple stock) can afford to pay the freight. The Nano and other devices are eye and ear candy for spoiled-rotten middle-class teens and not for thrifty working families.
