Everyone at some point has viewed a video on youtube, if not they have at least heard of it. It sounds a little lame to start out with an into like that but that is what this post is about. For the longest time if you wanted to watch a video on youtube you had to do just that, watch it there on your computer on the internet.

A little while later youtube allowed people to post its videos all over the internet with embedded code, anyone who had a website could post any video on youtube on their own sites with this embedded code. Still people yearned for a way to take their favorite videos with them. People wanted to put instructional videos like ours on their own computers and watch them whenever they want, burn them to CD or DVD and watch them on their computers, or put them on mobile devices like Ipods and there just wasn’t any good way to do it. 3.Find a video you would like to save to your hard drive
4.Open Youtube Downloader
5.Copy the URL from your browser to the downloader
6.Click download to start downloading

The only bummer about this program is you do not have the option to automatically choose what format you want to save the file in. Once you download the video the program does allow you to convert from the ipod format to something like Xvid or Mpeg if you so wish. It isn’t pretty but it works just fine. If you want a few more options you could use something like Quick Media Converter, another free program.

Anyway we realize this isn’t one of the best posts we have ever written but a lot of people write us and ask if it is possible to save youtube videos to your hard drive, for a long time there wasn’t an easy way to do it but now there certainly is.
