Keep Your Website Data Backed Up With NAS

Web Hosting Backup On A NAS (Network Attached Storage)
Matthew did a really good post this past Friday on using a NAS at home. You can see his NAS article here. Now, this touched on a subject that I really can’t overlook for our Web Design and Hosting section.
Having automated backups on a daily basis is a critical procedure that many IT professionals refuse not to do. This is because technology has the chance of messing up and this could result in lost data. Let’s take a closer look into this.
The Importance of Web Hosting Backups
When a software or hardware failure occurs, the first thing that should be on your mind is whether or not you have taken the measures to backup your precious data.
Many times, people fail to do this because they think it’s too complicated. It’s not, in fact a lot of web hosting control panels and VPS control panels have an automated backup solution integrated to make this a simple task.
Now, if you ever come upon a time where something on your web hosting server fails and causes data lost, it won’t give you a heart attack. That is if you ask your web hosting provider for a NAS and setup automated backups to it daily.
Restoring Data From A NAS
This is pretty simple. If you end up losing data, you may just want to start fresh while you have the opportunity. That way bugs that still may exist won’t put your website(s) in harm’s way.
Once you have a clean start, you just need to import the backups from your NAS to the control panel of your choice. Make sure that you’re using the same control panel that did your backups to prevent any headaches.
Once restored, your website(s) should be fully operational. The data that was backed up will still be there and you just have to worry about moving forward from that bad day you save with a smart backup strategy.
Never again do you have to worry about losing your data!
