Preserve The Life of Your Laptop Battery
If you’re like used to be, you probably don’t have much luck when it comes to preserving the life of your laptop battery.
However, the continued aggravation of experiencing laptop battery failure in the middle of working put my nerves over the edge and I knew I had to find an effective solution that would put this to a much needed stop before I had to check into the mental hospital.
With that said, here’s some things that you can do in order to help make your laptop battery have a longer lifespan.
Heat Kills
Laptops are designed to be maintained at room temperature. Therefore, leaving the laptop in the car on a hot summer day could be the death of it. Especially for the laptop battery. Over time, the battery life is depleted when exposed to heat.
Clean The Connectors
You can use a q-tip to clean these connectors. Keeping the laptop battery connections clean will help it function more efficiently. Providing you with a longer battery life than a laptop battery that has a bunch of gunk in the connectors.
Maybe you’re using the wrong laptop?
The size of your laptop can play a very big part on how well your battery performs. Lighter and smaller laptops actually have batteries that contain a longer lifespand than the others which are heavy and bulky.
A Moist Atmosphere Could Mean The End
No matter what, you shouldn’t ever expose your laptop to damp conditions. They were designed to remain dry around the clock. Damp conditions not only could kill your laptop battery, but it could make your laptop stop functioning completely.
A Simple Process, A Need To Be Done Regularly
This simple process is running your battery all the way down until it powers off your computer. Once you have done that, plug it in and charge it until it reaches its maximum capacity. Doing this every couple of weeks will help you prolong how long your laptop battery is going to live.
Many times, people fail to understand how easy it is to promote a long and healthy life for their laptop battery. Trust me, I used to be one of them myself. However, now that you have the needed steps to preserving your laptop battery, hopefully you are on your way to a laptop battery that’s going to stop aggravating you every time that you turn around.

I own a local PC repair business and it always baffled me how little a laptop battery lifespan is. You hit the nail on the head when you said “Heat Kills” because it definitely does shorten battery life.

To me, the best way is to have your computer turn off battery charging. I do that with my DELL and SONY. I have a DELL Inspiron and a SONY E Series. That way its still a battery backup during power loss while its not charging running on AC. For example my Sony stays at 50% while plugged in but not charging. Go to control panel, Vaio Control center, Enable Battery Care Function. You have the option of 50% or 80%. You can do the same thing with Dell laptops by clicking on the battery meter, more power options, Dell Battery Meter, then tab on Battery life. Click on Disable Battery Charging. Since it is running on AC the battery will discharge as if its sitting on a shelf somewhere. Dell will alert you when the battery is low so you can disable the feature to charge up the battery again. But that will be in many many months since the battery is not getting discharged by the laptop. The only thing with Dell is if you continue to turn off and turn on the computer daily, you might want to make sure the feature is still enabled every now and then when you log back in. It states that it will disable the next time you reboot but i’ve noticed that the feature stays on even when i reboot. Hope this helps. Remember I have a Dell and Sony. If you’re brand doesn’t have this feature, sorry. And if you’re planning on buying a new laptop, you might want to check if this feature is standard. If this helps you, you can thank me at my email: cmjustice@gmail.com since I won’t be checking this posting again. Thanks.
