Shopping For the Geek In Your Family
Whether it is for Christmas, birthdays, or any other “gift giving” holiday, buying gifts for someone you might consider a “Geek”, or someone who fancies technology, can be difficult for two reasons. The first of course, is knowing what they actually want, or for that matter, what they already have. The second thing working against you is being able to deliver a lot of bang for your buck. If your family is anything like ours, most gifts are strictly held to a fifty dollar limit or less. Often times, people will team up to deliver a little extra “wow”. Most often though, people are stuck fending for themselves, on a small budget looking to deliver big smiles.
So from “Geeks” to you, here is some advice you should live by.
Stick To Your Budget:
It’s easy to extend a little on an item, but before you know it, you are setting a bad precedence. Other people in the family might see that as favoritism. With that said, if you don’t care about those things, GO FOR IT!
Nothing Is Better Than Something Crummy:
This is perhaps one of our most important tips of the post. Too many times we have seen $30 GPS systems, off brand TV’s, and all sorts of other crummy gifts come from under that dreaded Christmas tree. We’re here telling you to SKIP IT! You may think hey, “I’m getting him a GPS system from Kohl’s it’s got to be okay?” NO! We say BAD SHOPPER! Too many times we have seen faked smiles dealt out over a crummy piece of electronics.
There are only two things that can result from this situation, a return, or they toss it in the corner never to be used. There is a reason it’s that cheap. There is a reason a clothing store is selling a GPS system. If they truly do want a GPS, odds are they know exactly what they want. Get them a gift card to the store where they can find what they want, a place where they can talk to experts, and have a large selection to choose from. We beg of you!
Gift Cards Are Still Awesome:
Don’t ever think for a second that gift cards are impersonal. Geeks will always understand and be happy. There’s nothing like heading over to the local Best Buy with about 20 gift cards and getting the thing you really wanted in the first place. Trust us!
Sometimes The Basics Are Just As Good:
As a parting tip, remember some of the basics are always good for the Geek in your family. Here is a list of five things almost anyone needs and you can pick them up at Amazon or TigerDirect.com at very affordable prices.
• Blank CD’s
• Black DVD’s
• Itunes Gift Card/Amazon Gift Card
• Best Buy Gift Card
• Cash (yes cash, say what you want about it, but we love it!)
