Changing the Time and Date in Windows

Print PDF

Ever had trouble setting the time on your PC?

Changing the time and date in Windows is fast and easy. Most date and time information is updated automatically for you, but it helps to know how to manually set it in case these updates fail to take place. The process is basically the same on all versions of the operating system.

Double click on the clock display in your screen’s lower right corner. A window will pop up and display 3 tabs. The first is “Internet Time,” which gives you the option to automatically synchronize your computer with the Internet timeserver. The next tab is “Time Zone,” which is important for ensuring your computer automatically updates for daylight savings time. The final, “Date & Time,” allows you to do exactly what its name suggests: Change your computer’s date and time.

If needed, you can select the proper day, month and year by clicking on the calendar that appears on the left side of the window. The clock can be changed on the right side by entering the time in the numeric box. If you like to set your clock several minutes ahead for productivity reasons, make sure you deselect the automatic update option from the “Internet Time” tab. Otherwise, your computer will automatically set itself to the correct time.
