Have you ever wondered about the different kinds of mice?
Mice come in 2 main types: standard and trackball. A standard mouse is one of the common ones with the ball/sensor/laser on the bottom that you move the pointer by moving your wrist and arm around the desk. Trackballs work by either using the thumb or the forefinger to roll a ball around inside a stationary mouse and puts much less strain on the wrist but sacrifices some of the precise control needed in games and in some art and design fields.
Most mice nowadays are USB but you will still find some ps2 mice around. Many mice try to differentiate themselves with higher DPI or more buttons, but the 2 main features that you need on a mouse are reliability and usability. It really comes down to a mouse not giving you any problems and being as comfortable as possible.
