To your definitive resource for all computer related needs. We are here to help.
In a world where it really is true that nothing is free, providing certain complimentary services as a small business owner will help separate you from your competition. Obviously I will be writing this post around running your own computer repair business but this theory really hold true in almost any business. With competition as fierce as it has ever been in the world, complimentary services, or going the extra mile is really a must for small businesses. Customer loyalty is at an all time low and it is important to give your customers a reason to come back and equally as importantly tell their friends about what a great experience they had using your company.
It really is the little things we do in the computer repair business that helps us gain customer loyalty. The customer is already under stress with their computer failing and it can really help brighten up their day if you throw in a little extra. Here are a few things we as computer technicians can do to go the extra mile.
Clean the Exterior: (60 Seconds)
Take a little Windex or fantastic and spend 60 seconds cleaning the outside of the customer’s computer. In most cases it has never once been cleaned and it’s likely pretty nasty. They key here is just like washing a car at an auto dealership, the customer is sure to notice right away and be very thankful. I usually recommend going over all the extras you have provided right before you hand them the bill. :)
Clean the Interior: (60 Seconds)
Take a can of compressed air, being careful not to blow directly on fans, and clean out all those nasty dust bunnies inside their computer. Literally 100% of computers I see come across my desk could use it, it takes another 60 seconds, and has the added bonus of actually helping the computer in the long term. When you are handing the computer back to the customer tell them you opened up their computer and cleaned it out, in some cases I even provided pictures of before and after for them. Tell them this can help prevent a lot of issues and you would be glad to do it again anytime for free. You can be sure they will tell their friends about how you went above and beyond their expectations and the pictures are a nice touch to send with them. Do this and watch the referrals come rolling in.
Check Their Fans: CPU, Power Supply, & Any Case Fans (60 Seconds)
While you have the computer open you may as well check their fans. It’s a good opportunity to sell them some replacement fans or even additional cooling, not to mention they will love you for it. Make sure and tell them about how you checked all their systems cooling for free and why heat is your computers worst enemy. (Well besides water..)
