Is it an automatic fail over or do you have to manually switch to the generator?

I'd love it if they made a solar generator that didn't take up the whole back yard or rooftop and cost an arm and a leg. That's what I'm waiting for. It just makes sense to pull power from the sun. For now I have a 5000W gasoline generator. I've had it for two years and haven't had to use it. If you've ever been without power for a couple of days as the result of an ice storm you'd understand why I've got to have one.

It would be intersting tow see how clean the electricity would be coming off of a generator versus the standard power grid.
