Thought you meant a desktop, with a laptop you can normally feel the air blowing out of the vents, might have trouble finding the cmos battery on a laptop never mind replacing it, if you can get hold of install disc try repair install or start up in safe mode see if it keeps running if so it isnt hardware related its a corrupted os.
