Post BSoD and no command prompt

I have a HP Pavilion a1210n, AMD 64 Athlon, XP 2002 SP3.

The BSoD popped up shortly after I tried to run OPHCRACK (free download to reset password). The error message is stop: 0x00000024(0x00190203,0x861E1EF0/0x86364EF0,0xC0000102,0x00000000). I get the 861E1 code when trying to start Windows normally or with last known good configuration. I get the 86364 code when trying to start in any of the 3 safe modes. All attempts to start result in BSoD.

I cannot access Windows and I cannot get a command prompt from boot menu and safe mode. I can run system restore but I don't want to do that yet. I tried running Registry Mechanic 9 and a partition repair (both free downloads) from CD but neither would start (I set the BIOS to boot from CD).

Does anyone know the magic bullet for this problem?

Thanks,
ARNIE

Sounds like hard drive is on its way out from error code, or the operating system is corrupted, can you get hold of an install disk to do a repair.

No, I don't have the install disk. I inherited the computer from a family member and not everything was with it.

Would an "ultimate boot cd" help me?

Ultimate Boot CD removes viruses very well, not sure if it will fix your problem though.

the Ultimate Bood CD will not solve this problem, you need to repair the OS files. or full reformat. the only way

How do I repair the OS files? I can't get a command prompt.

From the advanced options menu, I choose "safe mode w/command prompt" and I get a listing of my partition/drivers but no prompt.

Default BSoD problem solved

OK, I solved my BSoD problem by removing the hard drive and installing it in another computer. Crossed my fingers that the removed HD would not mess up the host computer...it didn't. The host computer immediately detected the OS problem, ran checkdisk and fixed the errors.

Next, I scanned the hard drive with MS Security Essentials, found 2 trojans and promptly removed them. Plugged the HD back into it's original case and it worked fine. I suspect the trojans came from Ophcrack (free download for resetting lost password).

If anyone else has a similar problem, this might be the solution for you. Make sure your host computer is virus protected though.

MS Security Essentials is a great realtime antivirus that is free to anyone with a genuine MS OS. Just do a search for Microsoft Security Essentials.
