If the memory physically fits into the slots and the tabs lifted up and locked into place its fine, when computer boots go into bios and check the timings are correct, somtimes the bios will load defaults that are supposed to run most memory but the bios goofs from time to time, timmings should be on a sticker on the ram.

Thanks for your response. I still don't have the problem fixed but I did buy a new computer. (it was time) But I am keeping the old computer to work on and try to restore and learn from. I got the video lessons from byoit but most of it is very new to me. I am waiting for the tool kit so I can be safe when I go back into my computer and look at the timeing on the RAM. QUESTION FOR YOU THOUGH?. With my new HP computer through Office Depot I paid for 3 recovery discs for my new computer that they just downloaded on regular CDs. I don't have the discs in the video provided by byoit. I am tempted to try these recovery CD's on my Old computer I figure what have I got to lose. I don't seem to have any recovery discs with my old computer which is a Systemmax Ascent I bought through OD. The recovery CD's offered through Beyoit seem generic. Why wouldn't these work? Like what do I know. What is the worst that could happen |

I am no geek but, did you try removing the ram and replacing the orig. ram- see if your PC runs okay If so, I'd try another ram, especially made for your PC.

Recovery discs wont work on another computer, you dont need to go into the computer case to get into bios, when you start computer hold down delette key or try the f keys, can you see anything when you start up bios splash screen or the makers name or is it a blank screen, did the retaining tabs lift up when you installed the memory, whats the operating system, and how much memory did you have before the upgrade, and what was the computer working like before the memory, just running slow . i assume from the name you from the us, not entirely sure but i heard if you buy a computer there the store is legally obliged to give you a proper install disc, they always try to fob you off with recovery discs but they have to give you an install disc if you ask, sure some of members from the us will know. you could try reinstalling the original ram see if it works and get used to installing ram you know that fits in the pc.

Sounds like . He hasn't got the memory installed right. pull the memory out and reinstall making sure there's no dust in the slots. |

I pulled the extra ram out and did a diagnostic with the CD that came with the computer and it came back with a whole bunch or errors on the hard drive. The next step I believe is to replace the hard drive. The extra RAM I bought was from Crucial and was recommended by a tech i hired one day. I trusted that he understood the specs i needed. Not really sure. I don't think it was reading the added memory because I don't think the numbers changed when I went into the bios. Could I have ruined the extra RAM somehow? What is the safest way to handle it? How would I know if I did ruin it?

Jost because there are lots of errors on your hard drive doesnt mean you need a new one, either download belarc advisor or open the case and look for the name and model of computer, and look on the sticker on the ram and post both and we can figure out if it is the correct type for your computer.
