Default I'm new :)

Hey, I just heard about this site while watching one of the videos on YouTube. I plan to go into a career that has to do a lot with computers so I think these lessons will be of great benefit to me. It's not a bad idea to get the know how anyway The fact that this is all free is the best part of it all. I am an electronics freak, I love technology. Maybe I won't just pick up a few repair tips from this place. I get all excited every time I see something I like. It's like I'm staring at candy whenever I look at electronics. I was actually doing a bit of repair on my laptop today I put in a new hard drive (old one broke) but it's blank so I'm looking for the recovery disks or I'm thinking about buying another OS. Anyway, nice to meet ya

If you can get hold of an install disc you could probably use the key that came with the laptop,

plenty of free linux os these are the best ive seen

http://www.ubuntu.com/
and
http://sabayonlinux.org/

if your going with windows
xp is bobbins
vista is almost finished
7 not perfect but it is from microsoft, probably the best os on the market, not cheap for the ultimate version but nowhere near as expensive as i thought it would be.

and welcome to the forum good to have you with us.

It was actually the first time I ever did any kind of repair on the inside of a computer o.o Though I saw a video explaining how to put the new HD in (helped greatly) and the video was targeted specifically to my model series (it's an HP dv series laptop). I was actually thinking

I was thinking a lot about that last night. I'm a gamer so I need an OS that will run all the games I normally play and that will also run the music mixing/sound manipulation software that I normally use. I'm thinking about Windows 7 but I'm not sure about those programs being compatible with this OS. I guess there's no harm in trying one and switching to another if it doesn't turn out the way I would have liked it to.

Funny thing, I have a HP DV9000 and my hard drive went bad too.
Now my monitor is broken too

I don't suppose any of you know a good place/site to buy an OS boot disk? Would be great to get back onto my laptop. Is there a section in the store that sells them?

Well you can buy the disc's at stores like Best Buy or maybe WalMart. Or you can order them from CircuitCity or maybe even try Ebay. Or you can download them illegally from websites, but the choice is yours.
