Default new here

My job (well, one of them) requires me to prepare lots of documents for public speaking, studying and teaching. I was doing it longhand when a friend stopped by. He asked "You don't have a computer?" I said "No. I don't want one."
He said "Nope. You need one." This was several years ago.
He was a computer teacher at a high school. He went home and put together a computer. He used old parts, an old monitor, mouse and keyboard.
He brought it to me and gave it to me. I told him I didn't know what to do. He gave me a few pointers, but then left me on my own to "figure it out."
It had Windows 3.1 on it which was outdated at the time, but to me it was Star Trek level. I piddled and struggled and learned how to navigate it.
Eventually it had problems, so he gave me hands on training how to do common repairs. Through the years I have tried to grow in my knowledge. I'm not a "guru" but I somehow manage to keep my computers up and going, and I've been blessed with the chance to help others.
I'm looking forward to growing a bit more on this board, and if I can, help someone a little...if I can.
