I am a bit of a lurker. I am always a little fearful of putting myself out there. I am 62 and have been an IT engineer my whole life. started life punching Fortran holes in Hollorith cards for an IBM computer the size of a mini van in the Cornell Univ. engineering lab. I am now programming and repairing computers smaller than that card. Hope to learn some new tricks. At my age, rust builds up quickly, and as the great Bob Dillon sang: "He who is not busy being born is busy dying".
Regards, and staying alive,
JimT

Welcome to the forum, you've probably forgotten more about computers than we will ever know, but theres always something new to learn with them.

Computers have sure come a long way since then. Remember how surprised I was when I found out, on this forum, how big a microprocessor is or should I say how small. Thinking to myself, "how is that possible."

Hi Jim, I like your Dylan reference.

"He who is not busy being born is busy dying". I guess we are from the same era

While I was not in the computer field. I did spend the last 30 years working in data centers on fire protection systems (Halon etc. ) I am sure you have seen one of us crawling around in the subfloor or up in the ceiling

Things certainly have changed. I remember working in Disk drive rooms the size of football fields. Spent the last 10 years shrinking those rooms back to office space.
