I am a bit of a lurker. I am always a little fearful of putting myself out there. I am 62 and have been an IT engineer my whole life. started life punching Fortran holes in Hollorith cards for an IBM computer the size of a mini van in the Cornell Univ. engineering lab. I am now programming and repairing computers smaller than that card. Hope to learn some new tricks. At my age, rust builds up quickly, and as the great Bob Dillon sang: "He who is not busy being born is busy dying". Regards, and staying alive, JimT |

Welcome to the forum, you've probably forgotten more about computers than we will ever know, but theres always something new to learn with them.

Welcome to the forum JimT ![]() " started life punching Fortran holes in Hollorith cards for an IBM computer the size of a mini van in the Cornell Univ. Computers have sure come a long way since then. Remember how surprised I was when I found out, on this forum, how big a microprocessor is or should I say how small. Thinking to myself, "how is that possible."

Hi Jim, I like your Dylan reference. "He who is not busy being born is busy dying". I guess we are from the same era While I was not in the computer field. I did spend the last 30 years working in data centers on fire protection systems (Halon etc. ) I am sure you have seen one of us crawling around in the subfloor or up in the ceiling Things certainly have changed. I remember working in Disk drive rooms the size of football fields. Spent the last 10 years shrinking those rooms back to office space. |
