Default freeze up

Hi friends--My name is Rich and I'm very new to this computer repair stuff. HELP!! I was downloading the most recent AVG version when everything started to slow down, the internet connection was lost and now I can't even close the machine. What happened? The task manager says 100% usage for the CPU, which is weird. How can I get back to where I was? Thanks for any help you can give.

try holding power button down till it shuts down, or pull the plug.

Welcome to the forum.

I does sound like AVG ran into problems during the install. This sometimes just happens. But it could have happened because you may already have a virus or anther AV program.
