She won't! She jokes..she can turn it on, make the bed, do the laundry come back, and it's still booting up! And it's not really a joke!

try starting it up in safe mode, or try stopping things in the start up menu by going into msconfig, you CAN safely stop everthing, theres nothing thats going to crash the computer, doesnt mean you have to stop everthing and leave the anti virus programs running (unless they are norton, macaffee obviously, always stop them) and when you reboot it will give you the option to revert back (unless you tick the box that says dont warn me again), could also be malware, run something like avast, malwarebytes free edition and rootkit revealer (every computer i look at at the moment has a rootkit)

try running rkill first, it could be malware stopping it from running

back up anything important before you start

Bleeping Computer Downloads: RKill
Try running rkill then rootkit revealer and posting log on bleeping computers and they will tell you whether or not you need to run combofix

Bleeping Computer Downloads: ComboFix Download

read up on it first, you would need to back up anythinng important

I figured out the problem... I was on my win 7 unit when I downloaded and tried to run this 32 bit program. But it may serve any others that might come along later. With the same, or similar issues in XP.

popeye, Thanks for the additional information..much appreciated.
