Default Bocephus is here

Hi everybody, I'm brand new out of the box, just trying to keep from calling a Tech to install ram for me. I watched him do a job for me and I couldn't believe I was paying him $75 to stick 4 GB of ram into that little slot. I don't want to fix computers for a living, I'm retired, but I would like to fix my own and if I ever get perfect at it I'll work on my wife's. Lord Help me and you guys too.

Welcome to the forum bocephus. Almost exact same thing got me to this forum over 2 years ago but it was the $90 house visit that changed my thinking and my life for that matter.

Smile Thanks DaisyMae70

Ouch! Now $90 bucks does hurt. 2 years ago, you could have bought an old used E-machine for that much. Ha Ha. Thanks for the post. I've been reading past posts and everyone here seems friendly and helpful. I'm glad to be here.

No chance I would be calling you Hank Williams Jr for short? eh!! lol Got curious (I am always getting curious) and googled Bocephus. For some reason the unusual tag struck a chord in me.

Default Rowdy Friends

All my rowdy friends have settled on down. Why do you think I'm on this forum? LOL. No seriously folks, I'm actually going to try to learn a little about how to take care of my computer and the little woman's so I don't have to call that dreaded tech that told me if I installed my own ram I could burn the house down and kill all the chickens. Just kidding

welcome to the forum, thing is when you realise you could have replaced the memory yourself you start to realise its not that difficult to replace any part yourself, also you will be in a position to know IF an ugrade is worthwhile, often its as cheap to stick 4gb in as it is to put 2gb in, but unless your using a 64bit operating system you will only be able to use 3 - 3.25gb, 32bit os cant use any more than that, and unless your using vista its unlikely to use that, if your on xp or 7, or a linux os your unlikely to use more than 2gb

Default Thanks for the info

I just bought a new system online from WalMart. Now before you laugh, it is a core I7-2600 3.4G with a 2TB Hard drive. It is upgrade-able to 32 GB of ram although I only have 16. A 23" LED Monitor with Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H67MA-USB3-B3. And it was home delivered for $1,010.66 with a two year extra warranty. Check it out online. I'm trying to learn a little 3D Modeling and doing some Video and Sound stuff with the old 6 string so I think I can use the extra ram. Hey! I might even have to get a huge heat sink and fan to go on top of that processor. Ha Ha.

Have to agree with Popeye. Always, Always, always demand an install disc. Especially when you spent that amount of money. But, enjoy your purchase.

Default Don't Understand

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are saying about a restore disk? A restore disk does come with the computer. Also 24/7 lifetime phone tech support. I can't build my own computer now, that is why I am buying and studying the course that is offered on this site. Money WAS an issue, and I believe I got a pretty good deal for the money. I'm a new at this, so I could be wrong. I think it is time for another subject.
