I would recommend getting:
a PC toolkit,
PC Doctor,
A CD case with the following CD/DVD: OEM copies of each version of Windows, a LiveCD of OS of your choice, and any other CD that you find helpful.
A flash drive with your favorite tools
A Laptop to carry onsite
A Smart Phone that has internet access

This would be a good start.

Default Business...

It is really hard to say... but some tools that I have found very useful for mine is a Sata hard drive dock (for backing up other peoples hard drives in a dead computer) Power Supply tester, KVM switch so you can work on multiple computers at one time, Simple tools to get the cases open, OEM CD/DVD's for OS Repairs, Some sort of external drive to back up data to, a website, a sign in your yard (this brought me a ton of drive by traffic) and a nice spot to work...

The tools will come.. Just read this forum cuz there is a bunch of great suggestions on here... many of them free.

Check out the "Getting Started" section of this forum.
Here's a post I recently did..
http://www.beyourownit.com/forum/get...air-woman.html

As far as paperwork goes, you do need to be a registered business with your state (sales & use permit...or whatever your particular state would call it) and contact your local courthouse to see what sort of filing you need to do there locally. Contact you local Chamber of Commerce...they may be able to help, too.
We have a Computer service sheet we fill out when a computer comes in. We record customer information (name, address, phone, etc.), the computer type, model, etc., a section to write out symptoms and/or services needed. There is also a section to write the services performed. Below that is space to add any parts used. Then toward the lower right is subtotal, then below that we figure sales tax, then the grand total. We also have a place on it for the customer to sign indicating we have permission to work on the machine, and it also outlines any warranty info.
When the comnputer is fixed & returned, the customer gets a copy of that sheet and the other copy we file. You also need to keep invoices and other paperwork in a file. It will really help do develop an organized system of filing things.

Wink hi

Well you will also need to see the safety. It's very important. Since you are starting computer business you can try cshotline. I have been using it for 1 year and I am very happy with there service.

I used CSHotline for 6 months. They didn't fix a single issue. Plus I lost several customers because they have a strong accent that my customer couldn't understand.

Their prices are real good.
