"Both of these programs are on the Hirens disks." Where and what disk is that?

"As far as my best selling services, it would have to be virus removals. I would say 75% of the computers I receive are virus removals. It is unreal. I use to try and stay away from them, but I took some seminars on manual virus removals. Now I actually enjoy removing viruses."
Can you give me an idea of what your pricing structure is? George

Hiren's is a diagnostic disk similar to UBCD. It has some nicer tools but it uses licensed software so its technically illegal in some countries.

We couldn't include it with the course due to its questionable legal status.

The older versions of hirens was bad at this. But the newest version (hirens 13) I believe has only 1 program that is a licensed software. They are trying to go with all freeware on the disk and will probably achieve it byt hirens 14. Although most hirens users are not happy with this change.

As far as what I charge for my service... You can see most of my prices on Pick-Up and Delivery or Drop Off- Adams A+ Computer Repair

I'm in the middle of redoing my entire website so that link may not work in a few days.

I pretty much always nuke and re-install the operating system in situations where there are viruses or malware on a computer. It just seems like the only true no-nonsense way of handling it. Viruses are so clever and sophisticated these days there is almost no way of knowing that you removed it 100% without re-installing. So i usually dont even bother with the manual removal. What do you guys think?

There are several reasons I don't agree.

First, I believe myself to be a tech. And saying that, means if there is a problem then I fix the problem. Troubleshooting, to find the cause it what being a tech is all about.

Second, a nuke and pave does not guarantee the removal of the virus. Viruses are now showing up in the BIOS, MBR, and could be in anything you back up.

Third, anytime you do a nuke and pave you risk loosing important data. or user can loose software they can't replace.

Forth, to me a manual removal takes less time than a nuke and pave. I normally spend 15-30 min manually removing the virus, then I do scans. Start a scan and walk away and work on another computer. With a Nuke & Pave, you have to back up all their data, reinstall the OS, Preform all the updates, Reinstall all the software, Put all their data back on the drive.

Fifth, You have just messed up the user's settings. I sometimes have callers call for weeks after a N&P saying "Well my computer use to do this.... How do I get it to do that again..." "How do I get the wall paper back to how I had it..." "I had these short cuts that I can't find and some of the short cuts I have don't work..."(those are the ones from the back up)

I can't stand doing a N&P. Just takes too long.

reinstalling is the lazy way of doing things, that said im very adept at the lazy way of doing thinks, proper way less so, think we need a step by step walk thru so we can put a sticky on it
