Laptop repair is really no different than desktop repair. When I first got into business I was also worried about laptop repair. But once you learn how to take the laptop apart then it is pretty much the same. Best thing to do is get a hold of some broken laptops and use them to figure out how to take them apart. Also join a place like onforce. If you become a member of onforce then you can get your dell certifications for free. Which also comes with the break down of every computer they have. They have all the documentation on how to disassemble their laptops.

If you saw it then you would never forget it and that's not a good thing.![]() As far as my best selling services, it would have to be virus removals. I would say 75% of the computers I receive are virus removals. It is unreal. I use to try and stay away from them, but I took some seminars on manual virus removals. Now I actually enjoy removing viruses. As far as laptops (hardware wise) the main things I get in are screen replacements. (which are not bad) and Power Jack replacements. I really don't like the power jack replacements. Those are no fun at all. Desoldering the old one and then soldering the new one. So my statement above about it being the same as a desktop is pretty much true except for the power jack replacements. But then again I don't do many of those personally. I have a guy that does my soldering. I just take the laptop apart and then give it to him.

I got lucky. Microsoft had a seminar here in nashville on using Autorun and using Process Explorer. They showed all the thing you can do to see what your computer is actually doing. Pretty much the best thing that are used for is finding things that are running on your computer that are either causing problems or shouldn't be running at all. Great example is Malware. You can use these 2 programs to find and stop Malware. Once it is stopped then the removal is easy. You go and delete the item you stopped. You use Process Explorer to be able to find the process. Stop it and delete it. You use Autoruns to find what is causing the process to start up. (normally a reg key) Then you delete it. If you know what you are doing you can do this part in just 10-15 min. After that you can run a few scans to clean up everything that was missed. And to be honest I normally use Hijack This first. I can normally find something wrong quicker using this program. Beware!!!! If you don't know what you are doing, using any one of these 3 programs can really mess up the computer you are working on. So use with care. But the worst that can happen is you cause your self to have to Nuke and Pave. If the virus is that tough to get rid of you may be looking at a N&P anyways to feel free to practice. If you can catch that seminar, then I highly recommend it. Both of these programs are on the Hirens disks.

This is always the situation with those of us who are wanting to learn. Is there anywhere (except the mentioned seminars) that we of the stupid kind can look for a way that we can do this?

| I looked for several years before I found something. I have no idea where else you could learn. You can sign up for emails from Microsoft, to know when they have seminars in your area. I think I signed up on their Technet site.
