The courses teaches you the basics of computer repair, but I can't say it prepares you for the exams for the certifications. As popeye said, this course teaches you how to work on computers...not take an exam.
Taking the courses also will not guarantee you a job.
I think the best way to start is to repair computers as a side job, not a main source of income.

I know that no course can guarantee a job but I do expect it teach me more then the basics. I already know how to build a computer. I am going to build my second computer next week and this time I am water cooling it.

I just worry that after I go through this course and I start a side business fixing computers that I am not prepared to fix there computers right and I end up wasting everyone's time..

I am already the go to person with my family and friends but I want to be able to provide the best experience for my customers.

having certificates is good, but its not the be all and end all you still need to know how to fix them, experience is everything, if your starting from scratch you need to to start fixing computers for family and friends and any other stupid people you come accross, its amazing how eager people are to let you practice on their expensive computers if your willing to do it for nothing, the experience will count more than any certificate

Like anything, the important things is if you plan on making "fixing computers" your business you can never stop learning. No matter how many courses you subscribed to, or tests you take you have to make up your mind you can never stop learning especially with the computer industry. Technology in this business is always changing. Pretty much the only thing that doesn't change is the troubleshooting basics. But there are people on this forum actively fixing computers and are finding everyday some new issue to be addressed. I don't think that ever ends. Just like any job. It is just a bit scarier when it is your own business and everything is riding on what you know and what you learn.

If you start your own business you also have to realize that computers are pretty cheep right now,my customers let me know this all the time.I do this just to subsidies my disability income for me and my wife. And it depends on how big of a town you live in and if there are other computer shops in your area. But in my case it is also a hobie I enjoy the challange.I took this course and I recomend it expecially the labtop course.

I respond to this by saying "Yes, you can buy a really cheap consumer computer, but that is what you will be getting....a cheap computer. Plus your only help will be phone help from someone in a land far away that you may have trouble understanding and will only have limited technical knowledge....if any." I explain to them that, yes, a custom built PC does cost more, but you are getting it built according to what you want and need, built with selected parts, completely tested & checked out, AND you personally know the one who built it...tech support and help is provided personally and locally." I have found that this does make an impact on people.
That was a bit off-topic....sorry.

Your are absolutely right,on custom computers I tell them the same thing,I;m local I speak English unless I get mad Then the German comes out of me.But just on general repairs that is what I hear,Well I can buy a computer for this much, but being self employed does have its advantages If you don't like there attitude you tell them nicely take you computer to geeksquad

way things are at the moment unless you dream of being a civil servant your going to struggle, but things will pick up eventually and computers have been effected a lot less than othe trades like builing trade, its all about putting yoursellf in a good position for when things do pick up

hello DrDigitized2
I know how you feel and unless you can take the test right now to be A+ certified it will take a little time depending upon what you already know. Im new to it and have done the homework and the study material here is a great building block but it will not cover all that is on the 220-701 and 220-702 test. However i have found that with this study material, which by the way gives me more of the hands on experience and a book 'Mike Meyers' Guide to Supporting Windows 7 for CompTIA A+ cert 701 + 702 will do the trick. It all depends on the person and the best learning tools thay need. In my opinion the study materials you buy here are a good investment and like i said iv'e done my homework on it. Over two months of studying reviews and comments cause i dont want to wast time and money two of which i dont have. Good luck and i hope doors open for you my friend
