you can't beat building a computer from scratch if you want to learn about them, as for fixing them a bit of common sense and proper install discs will solve most problems, other than fixing them i have no interest in computers whatsoever.

and you can fix any computer, if you replace enough of the parts, trick is to figure out what the cause is before you've replaced half of them.

and start collecting spare parts by asking round your family and friends, if you have two computers one running and one isnt, if you swap all the good parts over and it still isnt working and the only thing you haven't changed is the case, the case starts to look favourite (either a bad switch or the m/b touching case somewhere it shouldn't), you can buy tools for testing ram and psu etc but most people doing it for a living seem to do it same way as the rest of us.

you can download most of the study material for the tests, then just organise sitting it yourself or see if you can get a grant for it.

You don't really get degrees for computer repair, you get certifications saying you know how to do this.

A+ is one of the most recognized one but there are others as well such as network+ security+ various Microsoft certifications and more.

None of these "require" college although many colleges try to offer courses with these certifications as the final goal. Depending on your experience level and your ability to learn we offer courses that are more focused on the hands on learning as opposed to the book and test learning you will get in colleges.

That is a GOOD statement.
Just because you can pass an exam doesn't mean you can fix a computer...doesn't mean you can't....but doesn't mean you can, either.
