Don't know if there is an easy answer. Take a look a this link. Might help. Vista and Windows 7 are practical the same OS, or so I am told. Goggled and found several relating the same problem.

Are you using a genuine Windows disk or a copy of one? Also, have you checked your hard drive for any errors or bad sectors?
I "suspect" the hard drive. Why were you re-installing Windows?
Sorry for all the questions, but knowing why you were doing something helps.
Sometimes re-setting the CMOS helps, too.

Edit: Sorry, I keep thinking of stuff. Make sure the RAM is seated securely. Is there more than one hard drive? If so, remove any extra hard drives...leave only the main one. Delere existing partitions and format before doing an install. Check if there are any jumpers on the hard drive and make sure they are set to "master." (If applicable.)

where exactly are the installation resources?, if you are using an install disc its probably a bad connection to cd/dvd drive, or dirty lens, or its just showing its age.

if your reinstalling from a disc you have made up yourself, because the person who sold you the computer told you to, and insisted you didnt need a proper installation disc because that would work fine, well now we know for sure he was telling porky's, if this is the case you can contact HP and they will send you a disc, in return for money, which sounds suspiciously like selling to me but what do i know, obviously its not selling because they aren't going to sell you something twice, are they. - anyway it will work.

if your reinstalling from a recovery partition the most likely reason is corrupted data on your hard drive, and that could be caused by just about anything from malware to a bad sector on the hard drive.

either way your going to need a recovery disc or full install disc most likely.

but looking on the bright side next time your buying a computer and they try and fob you off without an installation disc you can tel them to go f - XXXX moderated language XXXX - themselves

Hmmm, that's the first time I've seen a moderator moderate themselves.
