She tells me it just makes a beeping noise when she turns it on. I told her to bring it over with the Manufacturers guide. That way I can see who makes the motherboard. I think the beep code will tell me what it is. If anyone has any advice, feel free to give it. Thank you.

You can tell a lot from the beep codes although they differ according to the make and model, best way to figure out whats wrong is find out exactly what its doing, any lights comeing on, fans working, hard drives sound like they are spinning up or clicking badly, is there anything on the screen as well as number of beeps.

something could be wrong with your BIOS . but if there is a display on the screen thats a good thing because you can work in the BIOS. also, take out the little lithium battery for 30 secs and put it back in and turn on the computer. it worked for me.

One beep means all is well with the computer. More than one, you should look it up either through the documentaion of the "motherboard/BIOS", or the manufacturers website. It is true that manufacturers may have different beep codes for their machines. |

Standard beep noise at the beginning means all is ok. Multiple beeps means there is a problem. Beeps depend on your bios. It can be 1 long and 8 short beeps for example. If it's an AMI bios it could be a faulty video card. Check out my blog for a short article on computer beeps. Note there are many beep codes. Beeping Computer |
