your welcome just bear in mind if you go for a new m/board you might have to reinstall windows if it deactivates and you cant force it to reactivate over the phone, whats the operating system

you might be able to force it to reactivate but its a certainty, unless you know someone with a disc probably safer trying a ethernet card.

If you have a malfunctioning power supply it can kill individual parts on the board.

A power supply killed the network card on one of our dell's here at work.

No connection light + no connection in device manager + known good cable and make sure its turned on in bios = bad lan card.

Thanks for the response. How do I check in BIOS?

Enter the computer's bios by hitting f2 or delete when the computer starts up. It should be under something like "advanced chipset features" and should be something like "onboard lan" or onboard network.

Check to see if it is disabled or enabled.

If I had to guess your clock was probably wrong too. Bios battery might be low and when you unhooked it to replace the power supply it reset the bios settings.
