Default Dongles

I have a 3-zte which works well in my laptop and other computers (all os XP), but it won't work in the HP Pavillion os vista home premium. However, the vodafone dongle does work in this computer, but is frustratingly slow. Anyone got any ideas as to why the 3 - zte doesn't work.

Could be theres stuff running thats connected automatically or theres malware on the computer, and if it was low on memory it wouldnt help none, what are the specs, at the moment rootkits are so common on any computer i got i would check whats running with task manager stop anything that shouldnt be running and your anti virus and download rkill and combofix, run them twice remembering to stop your anti virus when you reboot and then run ccleaner, how much memory do you have? and what anti virus?

Only thing belarc does is check if updates are all installed, if they are belarc is happy.

so all your windows updates are installed and the computer is running like crap, the two may be connected, microsoft tend to make things that work straight out of the box, then over time set about f**king it up with updates (and no i'm not kiding)

the details you posted could be a bit confusing, it says 64bit but it can be confusing unless you actually see it, its probably the cpu thats 64bit and operating system is 32bit, best way is rather than copy info just take a screenshot and post it

on vista go to start and and type snipping tool and click away you will soon get hang of it if you havnt used it before, remember where its saved to

then when youve took screenshot come on the forum click user cp at top of page > pictures and albums in left column > create album (guessing now) > upload pics > search for the capture you saved > save changes > then when picture comes up double click it (left mouse button, double right means right ,double click always assume left)> copy the bb code under the pic > then when you post something click here
[IMG][/IMG]
> paste the bb code and post the comment

doesnt paint a very pretty picture over here neither, sounds like its this one,
HP Pavilion a6020.uk Desktop PC Product Specifications - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
P5LP-LE
its not going to set any records with 1 gig of ram but ive managed with less, sounds like its got pci-e x16 and sata ddr2 memory and lga775 socket which Core 2 Duo E6xxx and in theory would take a core2 quad extreme if the bios supported it

bottom line is the computer should work fine the problem is either other programs running in the background or malware, bet place to start is in safe mode and see if the computer seems faster, some things wont work in safe mode but you should get an idea from the ones that do if there an improvment in performance

Yeah, that's the one. Google is becoming my new best friend - I've downloaded a Manual for this computer - I think it best to read this through before I do something that may adversely impact on its functionality....

Will keep you advised on my progress with this problem. Thanks again for your help

Finally got a hold of 3 - and their technical support was less than helpful - "well, if it works in other computers use it in them, and if it doesn't work in one specific computer, then don't use it...." wtf! Like I said, less than helpful...

Windows has identified a problem, but they've yet to get back to me....

So, I'm left using the slow connection of the vodafone mobile usb....
