When should i use dynamic? and when do we use static protocol when setting up a router? Please discuss this in a layman's comprhension level as I am not that technical when it comes to terminologies. |

I hope this reply assists you - I too am a non tech terminoligist! Dynamic routing uses software applications on the router and chooses the best network route; Static routing means you manually configure routing files which runs on start up, and since these don't change, they are called Static. "Dynamic" and "Static." Beats me why they just don't call it "automatic" and "manual." I guess the use of "techy" words makes it seem more......techy.

Let's say I'm using a satellite internet, does it require a specific protocol? (dynamic or static?) Obviously not pppoe since satellite internet does not configure the router with username and pw to authenticate which applies to a DSL internet. I mean, does different type of internet connection require a different protocol? Last edited by paul john; 06-28-2012 at 11:10 PM. |
