I really did not know where to post this,Let me explain,as long as the computer is running it oporates fine restarts are fine but if the computer is shut down for any lenth of time and then started it tryes to boot but can't load windows i get a blank screen with a line on top of the left hand side that just flashes like the computer is thinking what to do next, not a big line - just a little bit bigger than that.So then i hold the power button in to sut down the machine, pres the power button agin and then it powers up to desktop, and works fine

have you changed boot order back to hdd now youve installed the os, i would replace the bios battery it sounds like its having trouble finding boot record, this will make sure battery is good and it will reset the bios so its not looking for other devices to boot from (diable floppy drive drive seek ass well)

While it does not physically have a floppy drive, a "floppy drive" may be listed in the BIOS, and when the PC tries to find the floppy it can't and then it gets in a bad mood. Find the areas in the BIOS where a flopy may be listed and disable it, especially in the boot sequence. Replacing the CMOS battery is a good idea, but you will have to reset the BIOS settings after you do it. Edit: Sorry. I didn't see where you said it did not have a floppy in the boot list.

Doesnt make any sense that replacing the cmos battery would mess everything up again it has to be an intermittent fault with the m/b or the chip, or its something to do with the os, what are you using to install the operating system repair discs created from the original os or the full os install disc

your using the dvd drive to install the os, if its playing up it will mess up the install, but cant really see that being the problem
