I just love trying out new Linux distro's but recently i tried to run Ubuntu 10.10 as a "Live CD" with the intention of installing it to the hard drive. But when i did get around to installing it to the hard drive i was informed: (process: 335): GLib-WARNING**: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (o) As i have never come across this before i was wondering if it was something to do with the partition set up on the hard drive? |

I'm not sure what that is about, but I do know that Windows and Linux use different HD formatting so you will need to reformat your HD. It should ask you to reformat your HD when installing it. I had Ubuntu and loved it.

I have had some major problems with running Ubuntu 10.10. I have reverted back to 9.4. I can't get 10.10 to install or run LiveCD. 9.4 Still works fine for me. I'm guessing there is some kind of problem with the 10.10 version so I'm just waiting for an update.

10.10 is nice but I think 10.04 was the lts release? LTS means its going to be supported for a few years longer than the non LTS releases.

Re: GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0) EDIT 2011-03-02: The problem is solved for the 10.04.2 ISO: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...th/+bug/649917 If you download a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.10.2, or 11.04, likely it will work fine. |
