| Does anyone have any suggestions on acquiring a good router for home use? Brands, specs etc. I have 2 Desktops upstairs and a laptop down stairs used by a friend(approx. 30 feet away)and we are having problems getting and configuring the right kind of router for the job. Presently I am using a Lynksis wireless-G broadband router and it is utter crap and slows down our connections to a crawl. I want to upgrade. What are my options for a better router to set up? Nothing too fancy, but we are willing to spend a decent amount to get something that does a good job and doesn't choke or throttle the connections in the event we are both using a bandwidth sucking program such as utorrent. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thnx

I'd prolly try something like Newegg.com - BUFFALO WHR-HP-G54 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless-G High Power Router and Access Point or Newegg.com - D-Link DIR-655 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE802.11n Draft 2 Xtreme N Gigabit Wireless Router

| I noticed both of these are G routers. Is there a difference between G & N routers? Can anyone give me a brief explanation on the differences or advantages of one over the other? I heard N's were better, but I cannot substantiate that. In what way is as a wireless N router better than a wireless G? Wish I knew the answer to this so I can determine to get a G or N router this week.

I dont have a lot of knowledge on routers. I just checked the label and here is what I know about my router. Belkin Wireless G MIMO router Model: #F5D9230-4 In my house we have seven computers. (six people live in the house) Runs with minimal problems, quick fast internet. Alll of us connected to it. I'm the only one who is connected to it by ethernet cable tho. So in my house it runs 6 wireless and 1 wired. Overall pretty good. Might be a pretty old model tho so look on Belkin site for any like more new versions |

Top one is a G router, bottom one is an N router. G is an older standard and maxes out at 54mb's a second, (up to 108 using MiMo but you need the correct router and adapter for that) N can max out somewhere around 450. If you are web browsing you are most likely not going to max out a G connection solo or 2-3 people. If you've got like 8 people browsing the web you probably want an N router If you are doing transfers over a wireless network having an N network helps in huge amounts. (you need to have a matching card to take advantage of a better network) g card + n router = g network
