I'm guessing that pcworld is much like our best buy?

It's funny. They try to promote the geeks like they know everything to know about computers. But when you get to talking to them, anything harder than upgrading RAM, they have to mail off to their repair warehouse. I have heard so many nightmares about what customers have had to deal with once it was sent to the warehouse.

This was aired on the BBC a while ago.

Yep, sounds about the same. Wish someone would put something out like that on the Geek Squid. It seems like most people in the use that are not techs have going to the geek squid and some time. When they find me they always say, I had no idea who else to go to. You would think they were good because you see the ads on TV all the time, you see the cars they drive all the time, they are everywhere.

It's so sad.

OK Daisy, now that you have built your First PC. Have you installed all the software you want to install. If you have not done so I recommend going to Ninite - Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once. There you can check mark all the software you want and then click download and install. It's the easiest way to install Avast!, Malwarebytes, VLC, LibreOffice, and much much more.

Wow Adam, that is a great resource. I managed to install Google Chrome( now my favorite browser) and Avast. Have to admit my desktop looks pretty sparse compared to my HP Slimline that has been my main computer( ok no HP jokes). Don't have any or those on my HP now except GC and Avast. Popeye showed me how to get a benchmark on my new build with this link.

Overall score 899

Nah! I don't show off. Don't know enough to be a show off. I will never forget one of the first things you told me in the forum. Bet you don't remember. "Don't get too over confident".

Default They will come...

So cool what you did. I've been floundering around since January. What was your total cost for the completed project? George

I already had a win 7 OEM disc, a monitor and keyboard and mouse. I built barebones and the barebones kit through Tiger Direct was approx $200.00 with rebates and I had to buy a case fan for $11.00
