Hi Guys,
Hear what you are saying, here in PA we have the 6% sales tax and an income tax. Some parts of the state, like Philadelphia have a 7% tax and they like to try to charge the rest of us an extra 1% for Philly.

As you said the taxes go up and I haven't heard of one temporarily tax that has ever been discontinued.

Death and taxes. Two things you can be sure of. Isn't that what they say. Iowa has income tax and sales 6%. But it doesn't stop there.

There are only about 7 states that do not have a state income tax. They seem to have a higher sales tax, except for Florida. Then again they have so many tourists and then they have toll roads so tourists pay on that also.

So tourists pay for most of the things in Florida.

I think Tenn has one of the highest, with some areas having the sales tax for over 10% (9.75% + County and City Sales Tax)

I would rather pay a higher sales tax than have a state income tax.

I agree. At least with the higher sales tax, everyone pays. With income tax only certain people pay and not the ones who should be paying all the taxes.

Well you can look at it like that. But since the rich don't spend all they make then the poor pays a higher percentage than the rich. but the way I look at it is, it's less of a headache. One less thing to worry about.

I wish the federal government started a sales tax and got rid of the income tax.

Then we could get rid of the IRS and save Millions of dollars.

the more you make the more you pay in tax, simple, the poor never pay more, they can afford it less but they never pay more. over here at the moment we have varying shades of socialism to choose from, they range from marxist communists (yes we still have them) who believe anyone with any money (apart from them of course) should have all their money and land confiscated and sent to Siberia to work in a salt mine, to the more moderate "lets tax the rich more, they can afford it"

for a start the rich can afford it, they can also afford to bugger off somewhere else that don't tax people to death, you can increase income tax right up to 98%, thats what happened in Britain and many of our most prosperous people never bothered to return, it ruined this country, they took their money and a good number of jobs with them when they gave up on this country, , so be very careful before you use the rich as a whipping boy, and this coming from someone who hasn't got a pot to piss in at the moment.

I did not say that the poor would pay more taxes. I said that the poor would pay a higher percentage. There is a difference. Say if we just used a sales tax instead of an income tax, the sales tax would be pretty high. For the sake of arguing lets just say over all it's 20%. (That would include federal, state, county, and city tax) So a poor person who spends 100% of their paycheck on a weekly basis would spend 20% of their income to taxes. I rich person doesn't spend 100% of their paycheck. Lets say rich person X only spends 50% of his paycheck then the would only spend 10% of his income to taxes. So if the taxes was only a sales tax instead of an income tax then the poor would be paying a higher percentage (based on income) than the rich.

Right now in this country if you make too little money, have enough dependents, and/or have enough other deductibles, then you can get all your tax money back or even get more back then you spent on taxes.
