Intel has been firing on all cylinders while AMD has been playing catch-up. The coming year looks to be more of the same. Both companies are poised to introduce new product lines. Intel is moving forward with a substantially new microarchitecture, whereas AMD is just now making the move to the 45nm manufacturing process, which Intel has been using for nearly a year. The smaller architecture allows CPU manufacturers to build processors that use lower power and run at higher clock speeds, as well as cram more transistors on a CPU die.

We would be knackered without both of them, if it wasnt for amd we would be paying a lot more and getting a lot less from intel.

Plus and deserve credit for the am2/am2+/am3 socket, making sockets that at least try to offer some bacward compatible deserves to suceed, intel are talking about dropping some i7 chips so they dont impact on sales of their new socket,i7 920 has only been out few months and its soon to be history.

Got a 5200 but the boards crap struggles to get over 3, think the newest phenoms are just about on a par with core2quads now but theyve got nothing to compete with i7, then again when 8800gt was brought out everyone was saying it was the end for amd/ati within a few months it all changed, hopfully amd will continue to get more out of the phenoms keep pushing intel.
