Gotta say i have heard that too.. or that coders have been know to be commissioned to create viruses for AV companies.

It is funny how sometimes a new virus shows it's face, and then the very next day the solution comes out with one of the AV programs... Co-incidence hmm..

This is interesting: If all the free Av software out there used in combination is very good. Why bother to pay at all..? I took on board ADAMSAPLUS note about the fact that it does hog computer resources and slows the comp down (that's where the bundled symantec stuff give me such a headache)

So maybe the correct set up is to keep your AV off the computer for speed, but have the progs set up on a disc that you can just pop in, set it all to work, clean the thing up and remove the AV progs...

Or is that just too fiddly...?

Really if you aren't pirating sh**, downloading porn, and/or a *** damned idiot your chances of getting a virus are rather slim. Your best AV program is you. And when it comes down to it there really isn't much reason to pay for any software because if you look even halfheartedly you can find a free app for just about everything you'll want.

Personally I have had the best success with Avast. Both on my computers as well as my customers.

That is not entirely true. More and more hackers are hacking into different advertisement and encoding them with viruses. When they do this you can access legitimate sites and still get a virus. I deal with a company that uses websense. If you have ever dealt with websense you will know they block anything. Facebook, ebay, porn, pirating, free software downloads, etc. And they still get a virus every once in a while.

Dont see an awfull lot of malware caused by porn or pirated stuff, what i do see is from downloaded games and visiting legit sites that have been hijacked
