Default Converting & Splitting Audio files

Here is a winning combination for those who prefer not to have an .APE file that is a 1-track audio for an entire album. Basically all you need to do is Convert an .ape file to flac with "free Mp3 Wma Converter into the folder of that particular file. Then look in the file and you'll see an .ape and a flac approx the same size. Delete the .ape file. Now open Medieval cue splitter to that file and open up the flac you just made. Split it and you're done.

It sounds like a lot of work, but after several turns you'll be doing it with your eyes closed. I can convert .ape files to split flac's or Mp3's in approx. 2 minutes per file. Easiest method I found so far on the net. I did some serious research on how to do it, and came up nil with at least a dozen different programs.
If you give this method a try and have problems with it, let me know. I have used these programs for 4000+ files and was successful every time.

This also works for wav files or Mp3's you want to convert. Although you won't need Medieval Cue Splitter unless the Audio album is a whole album encoded into what seems to be one track ..In which case you cannot skip to the next tracks, so that is what makes .ape or flac files so inconvenient. Give it a try. You'll be surprised that converting ape files to split flac's/Mp3's(320's) will lose almost no sound quality.

What is APE?
Monkey's Audio (APE) is used by Windows users mostly. It is a free lossless audio compression format with a highly competitive compression algorithm. Although software is available for Linux, Monkey's Audio is not as popular among this operating system's users. Decompression speeds of Monkey's Audio is too slow compared to other lossless audio codecs.

Monkey's Audio successfully combines traditional lossless compression tactics (linear prediction and channel coupling) and a simple Neural network. To store the output values of its prediction step it uses Range coding, which is modified to work well with more or less continuous values.

Monkey's Audio's main competitor is FLAC, which has more features than Monkey's Audio (streaming support, for example) and hardware support to its advantage, though its efficiency in compression is not as great.

Monkey's Audio is released under a "custom" license. That means that you can do pretty much anything with the source code, just don't forget to ask the author for permission.

APE files can not be played by all modern audio players. If you want to transfer your PAE files to your iPod, Zune, any cell or smart phone, use a good audio converter.

What is FLAC?
FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, an audio format similar to MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality. This is similar to how Zip works, except with FLAC you will get much better compression because it is designed specifically for audio, and you can play back compressed FLAC files in your favorite player (or your car or home stereo, see supported devices) just like you would an MP3 file.

FLAC stands out as the fastest and most widely supported lossless audio codec, and the only one that at once is non-proprietary, is unencumbered by patents, has an open-source reference implementation, has a well documented format and API, and has several other independent implementations.

See About FLAC for more, or Using FLAC for how to play FLAC files, rip CDs to FLAC, etc.
