Default Magic Jack

I got the magic jack so my business could have its own phone line and voicemail, all without having to brake the bank. The magic jack cost $40 right off the bat, now thats a bit much but you get a hole year of service with that first payment. After the 1st year, its only $20 per year. Now thats prity nice compared to other landline phone companies. One down side to the magic jack is that your computer you have it hoocked into has to be on for it to work, if the computers not on then you incoming calls will go to your voicemail. Now I have my magic jack hooked into a server computer that runs during the day and I shut it down at night. No problems with calls at night or early in the morning. Also the magic jack sends your voicemails right to your email, so you can check your voicemails with any computer that has internet. If you run your magic jack on your computer you use all the time you can use the magic jack interface and contacts list. So if your friends or family are calling you, it lets you know who it is. One prob tho is when someone calls your magic jack, it will pop up the magic jack interface right then and there. Last bad thing I found was it adds to the boot up time of your computer. But if you run the magic jack on a server computer, you wont have any prob. One of my favorit things about the magic jack is that it has 24 hour live chat support. 11:00 at night and something dusnt want to work right, no prob. Over all im prity happy with the magic jack, and im looking into useing it with my laptop when Im at places that have free wifi connections. You also must have internet connection to use the magic jack, im not sure how good it works with other internet providers but with charter cabble it works graet. Now useing slow dial up you will prob have alot of probs, man I hate the days when all you had was dial up.

how does it compare to Skype? I was using Skype when I was a recruiter for a merchandising company and the people I talked to complained that there was a lag in what I said, and when he heard it.

How is MagicJack for these things?

Default new magic jack

The new one says it does not require a computer. I am assuming that it plugs directly into the router?

Default More Magic Jack and a Question

We have a MJ and have used it for several years. I got it to have a phone number that is not my cell phone that I could use on all those annoying etailer sites that require a phone number.

I almost never give out my cell phone number and when I do I put whomever I do in my Contacts so that I can see who is calling. If I don't want the call I simply ignore it.

This has eliminated everything but the illegal robocalls that come to my cellphone and even they are easily ignored. If the caller is unknown/anonymous, I ignore it too.

QUESTION:
Having had the MJ for several years, I was wondering if there have been any software updates, and, if so, how to download and apply them. When I boot, the MJ software takes an eon to load and blocks all other activities until it does. I should think that this has been pointed out and fixed. It is not a major problem, but an annoying one.

TIA
