Default NZXT AVATAR gaming mouse

MSRP $59.95

Target Market: Gamers

I recently won this from a modding website and it's not bad mouse. Of course serious gamers are used to paying for high quality components and the price tag for this mouse is no exception.

Upon receiving the package the first thing I noticed was the small footprint in packaging. Despite the market trend (Logitech) of making huge packaging for somewhat small items, NZXT has thought this out very well and made only the necessary size packaging. The box was a mixture of matte black and glossy black colors. Opening the box (like a book) you see the mouse and instantly are drawn to it's velvety rubber finish. Not just aesthetically pleasing but also fully functional as you'll see later.

Next is the cord after you pull out the mouse. Very thin (which i love) and not as stiff as you would expect (another great feature). It easily glides with the mouse and is not obtrusive as you normally see in gaming mice.

The mouse features two long lines of LED blue lighting on both sides of the hand rest and 3 rectangular LED lights to let you know what dpi you're running currently.

The next thing I noticed were the 3 Teflon footpads. While I'm not sure what other manufacturers use as footpads (I would suspect Delrin?) the Teflon lends itself perfectly to gaming especially or to anyone who wants a fast traversing mouse, especially laterally.

Opening the other items in the box was a pleasure. The instructions were neatly put into a small booklet which also contained the software on a mini-disc. Something I was very glad to see considering most companies use full size CD's or DVD's that are only filled to 10%-20% of capacity. Well planned and thought out!

Installation was equally as pleasing too.

Simply inset the USB cord and you have a functional mouse. Install the mini CD drivers and you have full functionality as well as customized input.
While I did not pay for this gaming mouse, the $59.95 price tag without having tried it would be a shocker. Despite that though and having tested and used it, I would say it's easily worth that and more.

The most amazing feature was the velvety rubber finish. It doesn't stick to your hand yet it doesn't slide out of focus either. It's very soft but not cushy and is excellent for long hours of use without causing any type of fatigue. After you get used to it's unconventional design and size it seems to be perfect for fast and long use.

The only cons I have come across yet were minuscule.
1) The design lends itself to have to get used to a flatter mouse i.e. big hands might take longer.

2) The mouse buttons on the side get in the way at first but after a couple uses you become aware of their locations.

3) This one is open to opinion. I personally like a heavy mouse but this one is extremely light which might be good for very long gaming sessions. I would have liked to have seen the addition of weights as you have in the Logitech M5 gaming mouse series.

4) The side buttons especially take some getting used to because of the low height format.

The pros are much easier.

1) Fast performance and extremely accurate.

2) Smooth velvety finish for long use.

3) Lightweight which also lends itself to fast and long term use.

4) Teflon feet which allows lightning fast response.

5) Environmentally friendly packaging.

6) Nice low level lighting in the blue LEDs

7) DPI settings are extremely easy and considering the resolution factor, very affordable.

8) Especially nice if you tend to get sweaty hands!

Out of 5 stars I'd have to give this one an easy 4.5
