Welcome to the forum Jetfan. What Windows OS do you have? This link is for windows XP with a SP2. Not really sure if it will be any help to you since I don't have enough information about the OS you are using. . You cannot turn on the Automatic Updates feature on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer

Hi, Another thing to keep in mind, MS no longer supports XP with service pack 2, you may have to go to their download site to download service pack 3, which I understand will be good till 2014. the download is free and can be downloaded to your computer or CD. Also Malewarebytes probably deleted something needed for updates, hope that has been of some help.

first thing to always check if updates arent working is that the time and date are correct, are we talking windows update or malwarebytes, either way if it started when you tried to remove malware my guess is youve still got it

That particular malware will mess up services and registry settings that will keep it from doing updates. Sometimes it messes it up so badly that the only "fix" is to reinstall Windows. But let's hope not. If you haven't done so see if you can restart the Windows Firewall. (Control Panel - Security.) If you can get on-line, go to How do I reset Windows Update components?. Install and run the "Fix-It" program. Hopefully that'll do the trick. If not - try a system restore that dates back to before the infection. If none of this works - all you can do is a reinstall.
