Default No Sound

I had the bright idea yesterday to install a Netgear N150 Wireless USB Adapter in an old XP PRO Computer. Everything went fine and I now have wireless on my back porch…Weak Signal, but works. Problem is, now I have no sound. XP tells me it can’t find my sound card. I explained I don’t have a sound card in this computer and that is why you can’t find it. I guess I’ve corrupted a driver on the MO. Well I’ve corrupted a few things before, but she said she was eighteen and …never mind! Anyway, tried to download one but no luck. Windows 7 was no problem for me when I had a sound problem, but XP Pro. Ahhhhhhh!! Any Ideas???

are you sure youve plugged speakers in the right socket, go into device manager and find the onboard sound device and try updating driver by searching the computer, it was on there before its still going to be there somewhere. if that doesnt work either look on website of manufacturer or download all drivers you can find on driverpacks.net and let it search for a match

Default Hey

Checked Device Manager. Nothing wrong there. No Yellow !!! Tried Driverspacks.net and they are not registering any new clients because of SPAM. I've tried downloading drivers from other sites. They want me to buy. Even the Motherboard site wants to sell me drivers. I believe the motherboard is a SIS N1996. I don't want to put any money into this. It is just for experimenting.

I was sort of disappointed when I only got one response in regards to my sound problem. I tried everything that I could think of but could not get it to work. I finally decided to buy a sound card with a driver CD (see pic) so I wouldn’t have to download a driver. It didn’t cost much and it would be a good experience installing it since I’ve never done so before. Well to make a long story even longer, I couldn’t get the damned sound card to work either. So after screaming a lot I decided just to remove the card and fergetaboutit! When I took out the newly installed sound card and rebooted…I HAVE SOUND!...God! I hate that! I still have no clue as to what went wrong or right. I couldn’t install the sound card and I couldn’t fix the onboard sound. It fixed it’s self-evidently so I guess if I ever want to fix someone’s sound problem, I’ll just tell them to drop it off here and if it gets well I’ll give them a call. I do have this nifty little Sound Console on my computer now. Geeze!

installing new hardware can cause a conflict, it happens.
