Default reply feature overview/protocal

Can you give me an overview of the reply features. Examples are quick reply, quotes, multi qoute, post reply I believe there is 1 or 2 more choices on responding to a thread or comment. How do I choose which feature is more appropriate to use? How do I use it correctly? How do I direct my reply to the main top thread verses someone else's comment?

Post reply for main thread, quote for reply to a specific post.

What is the difference between quick reply and post reply, it doesn't seem any quicker? Does it have any another advantages? How do you use multi quote?

Quick reply allows you to reply in the box at the bottom of the page, I use it all the time, post reply opens in new page.
