Moderators don't get your hackles up but you would have to be willing and able to answer at THIS level.

It might be a crazy idea that may never take off. (Or I may be starting trouble.) My suggested forum can always be deleted if it doesn't go anywhere. And you can give me my walking papers.
When we answer questions we tend to tailor the answer to the level of the person who asked the question, if we dont they will think we are patronising them or making fun of them, a category for begginers would be a good idea but we need to know what to put in it so the more sugestions the better, but if theres a thread on a subject dont be afraid to ask for a simpler explanation or pm someone you think can explain it better.

I made my suggestion. Nate and Smiling Bear are doing just fine.

I think what I said in my post came out wrong. Sorry. I meant I didn't feel they needed any more suggestions from me. You give great suggestions. They just seem to be handling it.

I can't seem to get anything I say right any more.

I am not really sure what you are looking for.

I don't really know how things would fit into a catagory.

Basic IT terminology? There are so many things I have heard in this Computer Forum I have had to look up. Never heard overclocking until this forum. Over clocking isn't basic term but the explanation might need to be. Is it something every computer user needs to know? If not. Why not. But Popeye covers its. Still not sure I understand it. Maybe I don't need to.

A lot of things are abbreviated when I read posts and numbers added. What's that all about? A seasoned computer user probably knows but a beginner IT person wouldn't.

Computer Dictionary section. Ya! people can google it but why necessarily send them somewhere else because they may not understand it when they get there and have to come back for an explanation (and get lost along the way.)

I once asked Popeye if I had to worry about a fire or a shorting out if I do something goofy plugging in my computer components once I have been inside (hey a true beginner worries about such things.)

Maybe every week have a computer term with a basic explanation spelled out.

I don't think we necessarly have to get in a hurry, just brainstorm for awhile. I will try to become more familar with what is out there and poses a question to me as an IT beginner. I will look at the other catagories and see if anything might need to be fitted for a IT beginner in the new forum. I am just throwing things out there. Personally I think antivirus and malware (sp) is covered in the other forums. If a beginner comes to the forum and sees a section for IT Beginners they might feel more comfortable gravitating to it and knowing such a forum exists. I would.

Sorry Nate. I thought I was going to be able to help. But I think it would be best for everyone if I just leave the Forum.

Why do you think that?
I'm just saying I need 3 forum suggestions so I can add it. I've been really busy lately so I haven't had the time to think of ideas.

Nate,

My attraction to BYOIT was not questions on how to cut and paste or antivirus or even software but how can I become my own IT. The name of the Website BYOIT actually enticed me into thinking I could fix my own computer. How can I gain more knowledge about the inside of a computer I use on the outside everyday?

What do I need to know to fix my computer as a working man or woman who knows nothing about the inside of a computer? IT Beginner Basics forum should attract beginners. Get them to want to open up their computers and look inside. You have to think like a beginner.

IT Beginner Basics (Catagory)

1) Getting Started (questions about getting started.)

2) Getting inside your computer (questions about components)

3) Those Darn Computer Techincal Terms ( basic help with technical terms)

I promised you 3.

Might sell more videos and tool kits.

Word it however you like or not.

Good ideas, I'm going to first pass them along to the admin, just to make sure it's fine with him.
