Question Directing Website Traffic

Hello All,
First I would just like to say good job Jeremy and team with the new look for beyourownit.com! I have a question I would like to throw out for anyone who has some extensive marketing experience. I am looking to start up a new online business similar to facebook or myspace. Give me your ideas on what would be the most affective way of directing website traffic. In the past I have used paperclick and overture.com both of these proved to be affective, however also very expensive. I am trying to stay away from paying for traffic per click and I am more interested in ways to create natural traffic through search engines, such as google, yahoo, or bing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone and have a great day!

Well if you want to make something like Facebook or MySpace, you should target teen forums, because they will be very interested in it.

Good idea I know teen forums are popular, however I used the example of facebook and myspace to give you the general idea of what my website is going to be like. I didn't want to go into too much detail in regards to my website concept. If you have any good marketing ideas to direct traffic for a website that would be similar to those particular sites. I would be happy to hear. For instance how did facebook or myspace generate the initial traffic to their website before they were even popular?

For my website, I used trafficswarm.com and it gave me a decent amount of traffic. It's free, but you also have to visit other peoples websites to get credits. The best I ever got while using trafficswarm is 1300 people in one month. (I'm pretty sure most of the traffic came from there, too)

the number one tip, the only one that matters is provide a unique service, authoritative content, or whatever it is you want to do you have to do it better than anyone else..in a way nobody else is, its that easy lol...

but it is the only way people succeed online.

A good free method that some of the experts in internet marketing utilize is article writing. Writing articles with good content and useful information is a great way to get traffic to your site. Make sure you include links to your website at the bottom of your article.
