Default Which Windows 7 to consider?

I am up in the air to which to get?
Windows 7 - Home Premium
Windows 7 - Pro
Windows 7 - Ultimate

I have a lot of games that only accept XP OS and not Vista. Even in Vista's XP compatibility mode they failed. What if I run into the same problem with 7? Win 7 has XP mode, but is that really neessary to spend the xtra $100 for XP mode if I can just stick with XP's OS? Even with the back-up modes it wouldn't be worth it beyond Home Premium. I used Acronis and it failed miserably several times....NO MORE back-up programs ever again. I used Windows backup/restore mode several times and failed miserably.NO MORE back-up programs ever again. If I have something to back up nothing is more it's weight in gold than a handy DVD+R or several. I keep thinking 7 will have me wishing I stuck with XP. Thnx to vista the brainwashing has worked and I don't know if I'll ever upgrade to any OS other than sticking with XP Pro. I'd still like to hear an opinion if Win 7 Home Premium would be just as good if not better than Win XP Pro? Maybe I'll slowly pull out the plastic and get nervous installing it after dumping $110 for it. Something tells me it's a resurrection of Vista as a curse in disguise waiting to happen.....

I don't think you will run into any compatibility issues. Windows 7 Ultimate (which is the one I have) runs pretty much anything that will run on XP and Vista. I haven't tried Home Premium or Pro so I can't say anything about them but Ultimate has been great so far, I haven't had any issues. You should really consider upgrading specially if you want a good, up-to-date computer.

Installed it a few times for people who had taken vista back off their computer and theyare happy, not sure how good the compatability mode is.

Default Windows 7 Pro is the way to go!

Windows 7 Pro has the same features as Windows 7 Home premium, and more add on. One down side the games are gone, but not for long when you follow this,
Go to Start and click on Control Panel
In control Panel click on Programs
Underneath Programs and Features click on Turn on Windows Features On or off
On the top choice should be Games Mark a Check next to it and click okay.

It now has all features as to Windows 7 Home Premium and is cheaper than getting Windows 7 Ultimate for two more features like Bit-Locker and Language Packs. For more info go to Windows 7: Compare Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate to compare Windows 7 Versions.

Default Win 7 XP mode question

Hey fellas, got a quick question about Win 7 Ultimate. There seems to be an XP mode. I would like to know if using the XP mode will still allow me to use 4 or 8 gigs of RAM on a 64 bit system? Seen as XP will only recognize 3 or 3 1/2 GBs by itself what of Win 7 XP mode? Logically speaking it should, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I played around with 7 the other day and it was every bit as crappy as vista has always been. Too many services that I'll never use, same layout as vista, and forseeing problems already. I can't wait until Googles OS is scheduled to arrive on the scene. People need simplicity!

I'm ready to go back to windows 95 and say screw it.

Default Windows 7 all day

Windows 7 is definitely a step up from the rest. I got the Ultimate version and it's Great! Just like Vista without the problems and errors. I love this OS the best. No complaints!

Had Ultimate on my old laptop and it was great, never any problems with it.
Now I have Home Premium.

Not much of difference between them. Only thing i like about the Ultimate is it can be installed on multiple computers
