Exclamation Need some help with this

not to fresh on Vista, kinda skipped that training. so if someone could help resolve this issue, first time ive seen it.

trying to install Avast and i get this error

C:\program files\Alwil software\avast5\avastUI.exe

The application had failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for mare detail.

Also with Windows Media Player, i get this error:
The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 11.0.6001.7000 where 11.0.6001.7008 was expected
Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the Player form the Microsoft Web site?

but when i download the install file from microsoft, and go to install it just searches for updates and does nothing. Input would be lovely. Thank you

I would try downloading the complete program from cnet or filehippo see if it repairs it when you run it.

Windows media player, avast just uninstall it and try downloading an earlier version and updateing it if that version doesnt work, had a few anti virus refuse to install, uninstalling then downloading them again has always worked for me, if its possible i would conect hard drive to another computer and scan it, always a bit sus when anti virus doesnt install added to the problems your haveing with media player malware is definite possibility.

ive read on up on the Avast error i get, i keep finding stuff on the C++, VC and Vista is not my expertise so i have a good enough knowledge to mess with those.

Then with the windows media player, i was reading and it has to do with the version, ive read different methods, such as using Resource Hacker, which would not let me overwrite the .dll so.. both these problems still stand.

uninstalling and re-installing does not work.

and popeye, im not the one to give up, like just going to a different AV program, i mess with it till i resolve the problem or completely f**k the computer lol.

If ANYONE could through some ideas my way to resolve these problems i will gladly give it a try and let you know the results

I would just reinstall windows myself, have you got disc and is there much on it, if its just a bad install create a new partition and install vista on that see if the problems still there, ive installed it a few times same disc and everything and it just installed badly for no reason, reinstalled and it was fine.

Brilliant i will clear all my downloads ready for it.

Iwould have to say windows7 is the best os out there and better than vista, but i keep going back to vista, its the first os i used properly and first one i installed, plus theres a few things that really annoy me with 7, not being able to move folders around not haveing email built in.
