ok disconnected the CD drive and loaded Dban into the DVD drive. It booted from the DVD drive. So now I don't know why, other than somewhere along the line my computer doesn't meet the System requirements?
Anybody got another suggestion.

Windows 7 Prof System Requirements
1GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
1GB RAM (32-bit) or 2GB RAM (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

This is the processor in my computer now win 7 prof won't boot to.
2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Not hyper-threaded

Yes. The win 7 prof dvd won't boot from the dvd drive with the cd drive disconnected.

try xp disc or ultimate boot cd in the dvd drive see if they boot, or try the disc in another computer see if it starts to install just stop it after the first screen asks you what language you want to use so it doesnt install

youve installed os on the board before so maybe take bios battery out or reset defaults then try changing to dvd drive

I tried an Xp disc in the dvd drive and it started to boot up. I got the command "hit any key to boot from disc" What Ive noticed missing on the windows 7 dvd when I go to load it "hit any key to boot from disc" that command does not come up when I load win 7 from DVD drive. Will try to load in another computer.

The dvd laser in the drive could be bad.

Stranger things have happened.

Could be a faulty disk also

I just tried loading my Win 7 OEM into my laptop and it boots from the DVD drive. So the Win 7 disc is fine. William might be right about the laser on my DVD rewriter. I am wondering if that is the problem. Don't know if this is a stupid question but do all DVD players read and write. Never used this DVD player for DVD's really just copying I think. Never used it to play DVD's. Is there such a thing or do all DVD players do both.

(just a side note I have VISTA on a DVD and it didn't load from the same DVD drive either that I was trying to load Win 7)

No all of them don't read and write. All of them however do have separate lasers for reading and writing. In my case the writing laser usually fails and I am left with a DVD player.

think its the board myself thats just too old, what you could try if you can find them is updating the bios version but its not sure to work.

Think I am going to see if this would work. Update the bios. Even if it leads to a dead end. I will have had the experience of trying and researching perhaps for another time. And may be able to share what steps I took. Thanks P.
