Default Loading Windows 7 Prof OEM OS

My plan is to load Win7 Prof OEM to my Test Computer. So far the hardest part has been getting it out of the plastic container it comes in. LOL Guess you have to have a College Degree. More to follow when I can get it out of the packaging. Just a little Saturday afternoon IT humor. (very little)

Default Looking for Bootable Drive in BIOS

The comp that I am loading Win 7 prof already has Win XP but i know that isn't a problem. I can just load right over it. Problem I am having is when I go into the BIOS to set up boot Priority so it will boot from Win 7 prof CD it does not recognize my CD Drive or DVD drive in BIOS.
I checked the connections to the MB And also I inserted just a plain CD as if I were going to load it and the CD drive reads it just fine.

I researched the Web found instructions. But Bios utilities menus don't all look the same.

On mine I went into:

Advanced Bios Features
Hard disk Boot Priority and this only shows the hard drive and a place for bootable Add-on Cards no CD drives or DVD drive to choose from.

Not sure where to go from here. Why would Windows XP OS (already on computer) recognize the CD Drive and BIOS not.

One last thing. I don't know if this makes a difference. Prior to this on this computer I had loaded dual drives: XP OS and Linux OS. Wonder if I could have messed up the boot sequence that way. Anybody?

Try the f-keys or set it to removable media device if its got that, if it doesnt show up in boot priority does it show up in general tab in bios if not sounds like power, data cable or jumpers to drives are not set right.

Created a new problem. Now when I turn on the computer the POST comes up but just freezes and I have to turn everything off manually. I checked the graphics card to make sure it is seated. Plugged and unplugged connections For the HD no jumpers have to be set for master. Probably won't spend much time on it today anyway.

I removed the Ram and the Hard drive and that unfroze the Post Screen. And brought the Windows XP OS up already loaded on the computer. However, it is still not registering the CD/DVD drives as bootable options. In my infinite wisdom I bent a couple of pins on the MD Connection where the DVD/CD cables connect. Has it now become a lost cause? I was able to straighten them but from what I remember reading here. That pretty much kills the connection. correct?

Tried installing the Windows Plus Disc to see if CD Drive would register it and it does so I guess the MD pins are ok. CD/DVD drives still do not show up as bootable options in Bios.

Where are you looking in the bios? there should be 2 types of "boot orders" on some bios screens.

1 is "hard disk priority" which lists only hard drives and flash drives

the other is "device boot priority which will show cd rom, floppy, removables, and "hard disks" the hard disk priority sets which drive shows up as the "hard drive"

just wanted to see what bios looked like, seen it in other post your in the right place it should boot fine to cd/dvd, try a different disc in the dvd drive (disconnect the cd for now), either linux xp or something like dban or hdclone or ultimatebootcd, anything that will boot to disc not the hard drive just to see.
