Yesterday, when I tried to log into my profile, which is the administrator profile, I received an error message that stated "User Profile Service service failed and cannot be loaded", or something like that. The only profiles I could access were the secondary user profiles of my wife and daughter. I thought I'd try to use "System restore" and back up a day or so, but it wouldn't run. I tried the same on a user profile and got an error message that the "rstui.exe file was missing". I powered down the unit and restarted in safe mode; I then was able to enter "system restore" and get it to run. I can now access my profile but since then, when I log on, I get error messages from my all in one printer's software, and have also had issues downloading pictures from my camera. Not knowing what the problem was, I spent time today uninstalling and re-installing the software on both without any improvements. I then called Canon about the camera issues and the tech walked me though a few tests to see the cause of the problem. His determination was that the administration rights to my profile are damaged, because my camera will start the task correctly and then stops. I then get an error message that states "a problem caused this program to stop working correctly", etc, etc. How do I get the administration rights back to where they were? I had made the Repair disc for Windows and the Diagnostics for HP when I purchased the computer. I also have a back up image on an external hard drive. So I've got a problem and some tools to use but I don't know what steps to take and in what order. This is a problem I've never encountered before. Any help would be greatly appreciated, today was very frustrating and I didn't gain any ground on fixing the problem. |

I would also scan the computer for mallware,to see if a virus caused this problem. If all else fails you might have to re install windows system

Thanks Popeye, that was what I thought may be the easiest and fastest option. Thank you andrewbach, I did run Malwarebytes immediately the other day, which found a Trojan called, Vundo. I researched the Trojan name and according to the article was related more to "pop-ups" and such. I also ran a full system scan with my anti-virus and it turned up nothing. That was all before I decided to try the "system restore" route. |

If you found something and removing it didnt solve the problem dont assume its fixed because you find nothing else with your AV, run rootkit revealer or if you plan restoring from a back up just run rkill to stop anything from running that shouldbt be and then straight away run combofix a few times, then run ccleaner, if the problem still persists restore from backup

I don't have either program, where do I find them and are they free or pay programs? Also, are they relatively easy to use?

I downloaded RKill, saved the file and ran the program with no problem. When I tried to repeat the process with Combofix, an alert came up stating that a Trojan called ADH.2,(I think) was found in the download and my Norton program would not allow the download. So I ran Malwarebytes a few times and next is a AV scan and then CCleaner which I've had and used for years now. If you should think of anything else, I'll check back after every couple of steps I take. Thanks much!
